Aurora Fire Department's Explorer Post #99 was formed in March 2002 with 8 initial members. By the close of 2002, over 30 were youths were involved in this career-oriented program.

 

The explorers have participated in numerous community events, including annual ghost walks, blood-drives, EMS Services at local events, fire safety and prevention programs, working at the fire museum, car washes, and much more.

 

Some explorers have also participated in events such as the 4th annual Goodwill Fire & Rescue Challenge in Alcoa, TN (2002), Learn & Burn which was hosted in Champaign, IL (2003), National Exploring Competition IFSI (2007), And the 1st annual hand-pumper competition hosted by the Aurora Fire Museum.

 

Over 20 Explorers have participated in the EMT course throughout the past several years.  Some have moved on and passed the state examination to receive their EMT-B License.  The Post has also had several members that have gone on to achieve their Paramedic licenses.

 

Since then, the post has reached up to 35 members and has implemented new programs such as ride-along's for EMT-B's, ride-alongs on engines and trucks , Awards banquets, Personal Training Program, new training simulators, new training facilities, and the preference point program. 

 

Together with the rest of the post members, the program is expanding and being given more opportunities to learn and help the community.
